Our preparations for the regional convention are in full swing! We are finalizing our performance plans, and working hard in each of the few rehearsals we have left. This year we will be singing for evaluation only - As many choruses did, we took a hard hit during the pandemic, which cut our numbers in half. We have also had many illnesses in the chorus, with several members at a time being sick, even currently. Some of our members are even singing a new part for the first time, just so we can have all four parts on stage! We have begun to completely rebuild after the pandemic, almost as if a new chorus. We have a new logo, new chorus color, new committees, new social activities, new web pages, and more! We are small, but hanging in there, and are excited to get back to a regional convention. After several years away from the stage, we are taking a look at the makeup we had been using. We are keeping most of it the same, but are using a new foundation this year - we decided to try out the MaxFactor Pan Stik. We are also using new costumes this year, and are busy getting everyone fitted. We even got new jackets to wear off stage! Early in the month our Birthday Club met at Buster’s Sports Bar and Restaurant in Ogdensburg, NY to celebrate our members with February birthdays. Our birthday gatherings will not be happening for the next couple months, just because we don’t have any birthdays to celebrate those months. We have returned to our previous (prior to the pandemic) rehearsal venue in Potsdam, NY. On the 14th we dressed up in red and pink for our Valentine’s Day rehearsal, and even shared some candy and chocolates! We have had several visitors join our rehearsals this month, and are excited to have a few prospective new members! |
Early in the month, our Birthday Club gathered at Robideau’s Mahogany Ridge Bar and Grill in South Colton, NY. We celebrated our members with January birthdays! On Saturday the 21st, we had a coaching session with Sue Melvin - one of the few Region 16 members still in our country! We love Sue and have worked with her for years. She gave us some new plans to work on as we prepare for April 1st. After working hard on our music all day, she finished by giving us an opportunity to ask her any region-related questions. She has been a great resource for us as a member of the regional management team! Our rehearsal on the very last day of January is our Fun Rehearsal for the month. The theme is BYOB - which means “bring your own barbershop” of course! Members were encouraged to send in a video of one of their favorite barbershop performances, and then we will watch them all together at rehearsal. Maybe we’ll find some inspiration for our own performances! It’s always great to see examples of what we are striving for, especially for new members. |
Happy holidays from Acapella North Chorus! We only had two rehearsals in December, and then took a break to enjoy the holidays. Early in the month our board made the decision to switch over to a management team format, so we are beginning to make those changes. On the 20th we had a Christmas gathering with members and friends at a restaurant. In previous years we have done gift swaps at our Christmas parties, but this year we collected items and money to be donated to The Renewal House in Canton, NY. We took the next rehearsal off, and will be getting back together after the new year. We will start 2023 with preparations for the Region 16 competition in spring - it has been a few years! Stay warm and see you soon. |
As always, the holidays have snuck up on us! In preparation for the holidays, our ‘Fun Rehearsal’ for November was a recipe swap night. On the 8th of the month, members were encouraged to bring a recipe to rehearsal - maybe something that they are known for making, something that is a family tradition, or maybe something that is culturally important to them. Or just whatever they might have - if they didn’t have any recipes to share, then they would sure be able to get some at rehearsal to take home! After rehearsal there were a few minutes dedicated to sharing recipes, taking photos, or making notes. On the 11th of November, three of our members set out across the border to attend the fall music school on the 12th. What a great educational experience! And of course they took notes to bring back to the rest of the chorus. There were no issues crossing the border, and they only got lost once! It feels great to finally get back to doing the things we associate with a year in the life of a Sweet Adeline. We have spent the rest of the month preparing for our one scheduled holiday performance in December - and using some tips and tricks from Peggy Gram! Below are some photos from our recipe swap, and fall music school.
